North Carolina-based IT firm DataChambers announced it has begun the first phase of renovations on a Research Triangle data center it has recently bought.

The 50,000 sq ft building and eight-acre property in Garner, North Carolina, were purchased by DataChambers in late September. Before the building is occupied in the spring of 2013, it will undergo a series of systems, infrastructure and security upgrades.

The first step is to reinforce the building to meet Category 3 hurricane standards. Landmark Construction of Winston-Salem is serving as contractor for that portion of the project, and work is now underway.  Upon completion, DataChambers will open the first 10,000 sq ft of raised data center flooring at the site and will begin interior renovations to office spaces.

“Our goal is to take a great facility and make it even better,” DataChambers CEO Nicholas Kottyan said.

The Garner property DataChambers purchased has been certified as a “Best Data Site” by Mission Critical Consultants.  Specialists evaluated the former Quest Communications telecommunications hub against a variety of criteria important to the operation of a data center – from fiber, telecom and power availability to site topography.

The company has also hired Clayton D’Souza as Triangle business development manager. He comes to DataChambers from Peak 10, where he served as senior account executive. D’Souza has more than a decade of experience in the infrastructure services industry and holds an MBA in international business.
