At the inaugural meeting of the BCS Data Centre Specialist Group (DCSG) on 29 January in London, Rakesh Kumar, a research vice president at Gartner, will share his organisation's view of the data centre in 2015.
The DCSG has been formed to discuss the complex and varied issues facing those charged with building, operating and upgrading data centers. The DCSG will also aim to bring best practice to an area of IT that traditionally has been overlooked, misunderstood or simply left to the facilities department to deal with.
Today, the data center environment provides the foundation for the reliability, availability and security of systems and networks that power the world's economy. The consumers' drive for availability of goods and services 24/7 places increasing pressure on the availability of the facilities, systems and networks that provide these.
As applications, data and infrastructure grow this has an increasing impact on the data center. Business and consumer demand for richer functionality and interfaces is driving more complex applications whose demand on processing and data storage are outstripping performance growth. This brings increased power and cooling requirements for the date center. The economic and environmental impacts of this growth now require serious consideration.
The DCSG aims to hold around 12 meetings/events per year that will tackle the hot topics of the moment, as well as provide a forum for communication and further drive professionalism through the industry.
The meeting on 29 January is free to attend, but registration is essential.
