DediPower, a UK provider of managed hosting services, has taken space at a Telx data center at 60 Hudson St. in New York City. The location will be DediPower's primary point of presence, according to a Telx news release.
The client's CEO Craig Martin said the company chose Telx for its expansion into Manhattan because of the large number of service providers present within its data centers as well as a large number of strategic geographic locations Telx has.
SNIA in a push to promote cloud-based storage
The Storage Networking Industry Association has formed a group that will focus on promoting cloud-based back-up and recovery services. The Cloud Backup and Restore Special Interest Group (Cloud BUR SIG) will promote adoption of cloud storage as a delivery model that enables elastic, on-demand storage provided on a pay-as-you-go basis.
The group will create best practices and conduct surveys to "educate the industry" about cloud storage. The group's founding members include Asigra, NetApp, i365, CoreVault, Terremark and others.
NTT America launches public-cloud storage service
Data center service provider NTT America announced availability of a new cloud-based storage service called Cloud Files for US customers. The provider says the solution provides enterprise-class security, high-availability and control. Cloud Files is an addition to NTT's suite of public-cloud services announced in May.
Customers can use the solution on a standalone basis or as a shared resource. As most other public-cloud offerings, the service uses a pay-as-you-go subscription model.
Peer 1 offers cloud-based graphics processing services
Canadian hosting provider Peer 1 has rolled out a cloud-based hosted graphics processing unit service. The offering is supported by "massively scalable" Nvidia Tesla GPU's hosted at Peer 1 data centers capable of delivering high computational performance for demanding applications, including graphics rendering, quantitative processing, video compression and large 3D web services.
The system runs the RealtiyServer 3D web-application service platform, a combination of the Tesla GPU's and 3D web services software. The platform was developed by The Nvidia subsidiary mental images.
Hitachi Cable builds 40Gb port terabit box switch
Hitachi Cable is developing what it says will be the world's first 40 Gigabit port terabit box switch. The first two models of the box switch will be available at the end of February 11, according to a news release.
One of the box switches, Apresia 15000-64XL-PSR, is a 2U machine that implements two 40 G uplink ports and 64 1G/10G SFP/SFP+ ports. The second model, Apresia 1500-32XL-PSR, is half the size of the 64XL version and provides 32 1G/10G SFP/SFP+ ports in a 1U box.
Australian Forex broker moves into CNS data center in San Diego
Virtual private server provider Commercial Network Services added a new client in its San Diego, Calif., data center. Go Markets, an Australian Forex broker, added a new server in the CNS facility in southern California. Forex is a decentralized global currency exchange market.
Other Go Markets servers are located in Singapore, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. In addition to the San Diego facility, CNS has data centers in New York City and London.
