Stratacache, provider of digital signage, content distribution and enterprise video acceleration services, has bought a new 10,000 sq ft data center in the Dayton, Ohio, area.
The $3.25m facility will house the company's primary ActiVia and OmniCast core compute clusters, which will provide enough capacity to serve up to 10m media devices. The company's ActiVia service enables companies to create, manage and deliver marketing messages for digital signage and IP video. OmniCast is Stratacache's content and media distribution service.
Active Power extends operations to China
Provider of UPS systems Active Power has expanded its operations in China by creating a legal entity in the country and opening an office in Beijing. Active Power is best known for its containerized power-infrastructure product. Since 2008, 12 such systems have been deployed in China.
An Active Power news release cited research that estimated the size of the Asian market for UPS to have been about $2bn in 2009. China was responsible for a quarter of that revenue. Annual growth rate of the Chinese UPS market is expected to be 12 percent between 2009 and 2014, second only to India.
Microsoft expects cloud computing to help increase its earnings
During a recent meeting with analysts, Microsoft CFO Peter Klein said the company had great expectations for cloud computing with respect to its bottom line. Klein estimated that cloud computing would help Microsoft expand beyond the 15 percent of the $2.5 trillion global IT market it is currently addressing, according to a Seeking Alpha report.
The global IT market is expected to reach $2.5 trillion in 2014. Microsoft sees new opportunities in the shift away from buying servers, ability to sell to more users and the ability to sell software as a cloud-based service.
Telus becomes a CDN-service provider by partnering with EdgeCast
All customers of the large Canadian telecommunications service provider Telus will now have access to the global content-delivery network operated by EdgeCast Networks. The two companies have entered into an agreement whereby Telus will become a content-delivery service provider.
The EdgeCast network interconnects with more than 900 user networks worldwide and will now leverage Telus' network to extend its reach. The solution is available immediately to Telus customers, who can now provision media streams and manage delivery of their content and applications through EdgeCast.
All Siemens cloud offerings to use VMware virtualization platform
Siemens IT Solutions and Services has chosen VMware as provider of the platform it will use to deliver its enterprise cloud services globally. The company has signed a global virtualization deal to become a VMware vCloud service provider partner.
The deal with increase options available to customers of Siemens' IaaS, PaaS and SaaS products, which will all be deployed on VMware's vSphere platform. Siemens has used VMware technology as a platform for its own in-house and external data centers and for desktop virtualization since 2009.
