The US market for "green" data center solutions will grow from $3.82bn this year to $13.81bn in 2015, according to a new report by EL Insights, a research publication of Environmental Leader that focuses on energy and environmental technology. The figure represents a compound annual growth rate of 29 percent over the next five years.
EL also reports that companies can expect an increase in regulations for energy efficiency monitoring in data centers, putting pressure on vendors of products that help increase data center energy efficiency to tailor more products to the public sector and encourage existing government contractors to include "green data center advisory services" in their offerings.
APC launches new over-head data center cooling system
APC by Schneider Electric has launched a new overhead cooling solution for data centers and a new pumped refrigerant cooling system. The new InRow OA captures up to 27kW of hot IT exhaust air at the source, neutralizes it and discharges cool air to the IT space. The modular system features variable-speed fans and active response controls.
The new Refrigerant Distribution Unit is capable of providing 160kW of heat rejection to the InRow OA cooling units. The unit is also modular and has variable-speed pumps and active response controls, integrated into a variable-volume pumping system.
XS International sells Cray supercomputer to US Air Force
XS International, a provider of IT and data center services to numerous US federal agencies has sold a new supercomputer to the US Air Force. The Air Force's base in Texas will deploy the Cray CX-1 desk-side super computer to support research, education and consultation.
The deal includes a three-year contract for support provided by XSi.
Horizon hires former Fusepoint exec as CFO
Provider of data center services Horizon Data Center Solutions has hired David MacGrandale, former finance executive at Fusepoint Managed Services, as its CFO. MacGrandale's former employer, Canada's Fusepoint, was recently acquired by Savvis, a large US-based provider.
Prior to joining Fusepoint, MacGrandale worked as CFO at Masergy Communications. His other prior employers include CapRock Communications/McLeodUSA and Excel Communications and EDS.
360networks connects Advanced Data Centers' California facility
Network connectivity provider 360networks has completed laying fiber to connect a new Sacramento, California, data center being built by Advanced Data Centers. 360 provided fiber from its backbone with diverse laterals into the ADC facility.
ADC's data center in McClellan Park will provide more than 300,000 sq ft of data center space at full build-out. The property includes a 45MW substation.
