A survey conducted five months ago by the Association of computer operations managers (AFCOM) suggested that data center market was effectively split into three with around the same percentage of respondents reporting that budgets would grow, be cut or remain steady.
Although the survey was conducted prior to the current turmoil in the financial markets, those polled reported that data centers are becoming more important to the business (especially in an unstable economy and that the data center is seen as a business function that can deliver energy savings.
Over three quarters of the 300 people surveyed said green initiatives would be a serious factor in data center operations in 2009 and almost nine in ten saying power and cooling efficiency would be key investment factors next year.
The survey was called: "The Current Economy and its Impact on the Data Center."
