Microsoft Global Foundation's former data center services director Daniel Costello has joined Google, the search giant said today.

Costello has joined Google the company's data center staff.

During his three years at Microsoft, Costello was responsible for data center research and engineering, standards and technologies as well as Microsoft's data center technology roadmap, data center automation and integration with IT hardware, operating systems and applications.

Costello has been involved in the development of Microsoft's use of shipping containers and modular design for its most recent data center projects.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Costello worked at Intel's global facility services DC engineering division.

In March, Microsoft announced at the DatacenterDynamics conference in New York that it would ship pre-assembled data center containers called ITPAC's to a data center construction site, streamlining the data center set-up process. ITPAC stands for IT pre-assembled component.

A Google spokesperson told DatacenterKnowledge, Dan's hire was based on his "great track record working with Microsoft and Intel".
