Data center colocation provider CyrusOne said it is planning to build a third data center at its Houston West campus. The new building will be located on a 45-acre parcel of land along Beltway 8 in Houston's Energy Corridor.

Kevin Timmons, the company's CTO, said the campus was known for having a concentration computing infrastructure for seismic exploration by oil and gas companies. “The new facility will allow us to serve the growing number of oil and gas customers who are demanding best-in-class mission-critical infrastructure,” he said.

The company is also adding a 200,000 sq ft office building, which it hopes will help it expand the ecosystem for facilitating research and development of geophysical exploration data, Timmons said.

CyrusOne anticipates breaking ground on the campus expansion early next year. Upon completion, the campus' total capacity will approach 100MW of power and more than 1m sq ft of data center and office space.

The company's customers have access to the CyrusOne National Internet Exchange (National IX), which links a dozen CyrusOne facilities in five metropolitan markets (Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Phoenix).

The company operates 25 carrier-neutral data center facilities across the US, Europe and Asia. The majority of its footprint is in the US.
