CyrusOne has kicked off construction of the third building at its Houston West campus. Once completed, the building will add about 100MW of critical load capacity and 430,000 sq ft of raised floor at the campus.

Gary Wojtaszek, CyrusOne president and CEO, said the campus was a popular data center destination for the oil-and-gas industry because of its ability to provide high power densities their high-performance computing equipment requires.

“Adding a third facility at the Houston West campus enables us to serve the growing number of customers from the energy industry as well as other industries who need low to ultra-high density colocation space for their mission-critical infrastructure,” he said.

Including the third building, Houston West's data center capacity will be more than 1m sq ft. In addition to data center space, the building will house about 85,000 sq ft of office space.

The facility will be built out in two phases. CyrusOne plans to build a 320,000 sq ft powered shell with 215,000 sq ft of raised floor space, 45,000 sq ft of office space and 48MW of critical power capacity in Phase I.

The data center was designed by Houston-based Kirksey Architecture. The facility engineering contractor on the project is kW Mission Critical Engineering.

The company expects to bring the first 55,000 sq ft data hall online by early 2015.
