CyrusOne, the largest colocation data center provider in Texas, commissioned its new data center in Houston - also home to the company's other two data centers as well as its headquarters. The new facility is one of seven the company owns to date, including locations in Austin and Dallas areas.

The company commissioned first phase of the West Houston data center - a 94,000-square-foot facility on a site whose total area is 200,000 square feet. It brings CyrusOne's total data center footprint to 480,000 square feet. Construction of the green-field site began in June 2009 and was finished this month.

The facility is capable to support power densities of more than 250 watts per square foot across the entire floor. As with the company's other data centers, it features a full 2N power infrastructure from generators to the racks, without a single parallel component.

The new data center's anchor client is a company that works in the oil and gas industry - a market CyrusOne has been focusing on from its founding in 2000. The anchor tenant takes up 12,000 square feet of data center floor.

Securing an anchor tenant for a new facility before building it is a rule CyrusOne strictly follows. The company also sticks strictly to providing colocation services, avoiding the industry-wide drive to maximize value per square foot by tacking on managed services.

CyrusOne is owned by Boston, Mass.-based private equity firm Abry Partners which manages about $21 billion of investment capital in more than 450 properties.
