As reported by Developing Telecoms, this will allow broadband Internet to be distributed throughout Cape Verde, a country in West Africa comprising 10 volcanic islands with a land area of around 4,033 sq km (1,557 sq m.)

The project - dubbed CSII-4 - is part of CV Telecom’s Connectivity 2.0 investment package and anticipates 750km of fiber installed across the islands.

The tender is for the design, supply, and installation of six segments of a submarine cable system, that have reached the end of their life.

The deadline for tender submissions is scheduled for February 6, 2025, with works planned to begin in August next year.

According to the telco, the tender is just the start of a series of “structuring projects, co-financed by the European Investment Bank, with a budget of more than €80 million ($84.5m).

Aside from the country’s three domestic subsea cables, Cape Verde is also home to the SHARE, WACS, and EllaLink cables. At the time of EllaLink’s launch in 2018, the telco invested $25 million into the subsea project.
