Cummins Power Generation has announced price increases for its commercial generators, with prices of EPA Tier 3-certified generator sets rising by up to 10 percent while prices of EPA Tier 2-certified generator sets up seven percent.

The company said prices have been raised due to market conditions and the rising cost of raw materials, as well as additional technology required to meet lower emissions levels mandated by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as of January 1.

"These adjustments are part of Cummins' strategic response to market conditions," said Tony Satterthwaite, Vice President of the Commercial Generator Set Business at Cummins. "With even more stringent EPA emissions regulations coming, we will continue to reinvest in our leading technology and operations to serve our customers well."

The statement is the latest in a series of price rises announced by major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

In mid-August, Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson and a global leader in enabling business-critical continuity, announced a price increase in reaction to higher commodity costs. The increase affects Emerson's Liebert brand of products and averages 5.5 percent.

"Current trends in rising material costs are significantly impacting most of the components used in the equipment we manufacture. said Scott Dysert, president of Liebert North America. "We have been able to minimize the impact of these rising costs on our customers through aggressive negotiations with raw material suppliers and continuous efficiency improvements.

At the beginning of September, heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc., announced it will increase machinery and engine prices in January, citing a global upswing in construction, mining, and energy exploration that continues to fuel demand for its products.
