Cosentry, a provider of data center services in the Midwest region of the US, announced plans to expand its Midlands data center in Papillon, Nebraska (near Omaha). The expansion is due to the increased demand for colocation and network services in the region.
The expansion will double the size of the facility, which after completion will include space for more than 250 new cabinets and be able to support up to 12,000 watts per cabinet.
Kevin Dohrmann, Cosentry’s CTO said the data center, located in a tornado-prone area, could withstand the most severe weather conditions. ”Our Omaha data center was built to withstand tornado level winds and other natural disasters, so customers can rest assured their IT Infrastructure will maintain the highest level of availability in the market.”
The data center can withstand 250mph winds, according to the company. The roof of the facility has multiple layers, built out of reinforced concrete.
The equipment required to run services within the building are all kept within the wind-resistant walls.
Derek Gillespie, chief sales officer at Cosentry, said the company had quickly sold out the existing capacity in the facility. “The additional capacity in Midlands will support the growth demands for our existing client base as well as help answer the call for data center services we are seeing from emerging enterprises in our markets,” he said.
Initial construction of the data center was completed in 2010. It was built to accommodate future expansion.
The company plans to complete commissioning of the new suite by October of 2013.
