CoreSite has lured Jarrett Appleby, who for the last three years was chief marketing officer at Equinix, away from the dominator of the global colocation market. Appleby is joining CoreSite as the colocation and wholesale data center provider’s chief operating officer, CoreSite said Tuesday.
At Equinix, Appleby was responsible for the company’s go-to-market activities. CoreSite credits him with launching the colocation company’s vertical-market approach, which supported revenue growth from US$700m to the $1.6bn Equinix turns over today.
CoreSite president and CEO Tom Ray said Appleby would help lead the next phase of growth for the company.
“Jarrett brings tremendous domain expertise in network-centric colocation as well as deep experience in the communications and broader technology industries,” Ray said. “As a 25-year industry veteran, he has a keen understanding of market dynamics, customer needs and operational requirements.”
Those 25 years of industry experience included a period at Reliance Globalcom, where Appleby served as chief strategy and marketing officer. Globalcom is a managed-solutions subsidiary of the major Indian telco Reliance Communications.
While there, Appleby rebranded the $1.6bn company u7nder a single global brand, according to CoreSite, and led the acquisition and integration of the British telco Vanco Group and the US-based enterprise Ethernet service provider Yipes. The two deals expanded Globalcom’s presence in more than 230 countries, according to CoreSite.
CoreSite sells both colocation space and private data center suites around the US. It has data centers in the Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Northern Virginia, San Francisco Bay Area and Washington, D.C., markets.
