Colocation services provider CoreSite (formerly CRG West) has secured a new tenant for its northern Virginia data center, whose capacity the company has recently expanded. The company offers both wholesale and retail colocation.

The unnamed new tenant will take 10,000 square feet of space at the 285,000-square-foot carrier-neutral facility at 12100 Sunrise Valley Dr. in Reston. The provider said the client, represented by Jones Lang LaSalle, was one of the world's largest IT services providers.

"We are pleased to announce this pre-leasing activity with a global IT organization in the competitive Northern Virginia market," CoreSite SVP of Marketing and Business Development David Dunn said in a statement.

CoreSite announced expansion of the Reston data center by adding 6 MW of power in Aug. 2009. The company said the expansion would bring the facility's total power capacity to 12 MW. The expansion project also included installation of water-side economization products, variable-speed cooling fans, new and more efficient UPS units and zoned lighting. The provider's plan was to bring the facility's PUE rating to less than 1.5.

CoreSite, wholly-owned by private-equity firm Carlyle Group - operates 10 data centers in the US, with an additional facility in Santa Clara, Calif., currently under construction, with the company planning to bring it online by April.
