CoreSite has added the option to connect directly to Amazon Web Services' cloud for customers at its Secaucus, New Jersey, data center.
To do this, customers at this facility can connect to the data center provider's Manhattan site, which has native AWS Direct Connect infrastructure.
Direct Connect is Amazon's offering to customers who wish to bypass the public internet when using its cloud services. If you are with a data center provider who offers the service, you can plug into the cloud directly, which offers both greater security and performance.
Jarrett Appleby, COO at CoreSite, said the addition aligned with the company's focus on providing network-dense, cloud-enables data center solutions. “Enterprises in Manhattan and throughout the tri-state metro area can connect directly to AWS in New Jersey, obtaining enhanced security, reliability and scalability at a much lower cost to operate while maintaining optimal performance,” he said.
The connection comes at 1Gbps or 10Gbps. It is compatible with all of Amazon's cloud services, including compute, storage, database and private cloud.
CoreSite also offers Direct Connect in Boston, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and Silicon Valley markets. A number of other providers offer it in their data centers as well, including Equinix, Telecity, Lightower and Telx, among others.
