CoreOS has partnered with OpenStack speciailist Mirantis to bring Tectonic to the open source cloud platform. Tectonic combines a fully supported, commercial version of Kubernetes, a popular platform for Linux container deployment, with software tools developed by CoreOS.

The integration of Mirantis OpenStack, the OpenStack distribution that is known for ease of installation and scaleability, with Tectonic, the first commercial platform for Kubernetes 1.0, should make it easier for anyone trying to use OpenStack and Kubernetes to securely run containers at scale.

Mirantis CMO, Boris Renski said: “Mirantis and CoreOS share a vision of helping DevOps teams create better software faster. Putting Kubernetes on top of OpenStack gives them flexibility in how they build their applications, letting them innovate quickly. CoreOS claims that with Tectonic, companies are able to focus on an application-first methodology since they are based on a stable container-based, distributed infrastructure across their environment of choice, whether it is cloud or bare metal.

Kubernetes is an open source project developed by Google to help organizations build their infrastructures in the same way that Google Search, Gmail, and other Google services are produced. The concepts and workflows in Kubernetes are designed to help engineers focus on the application rather than the infrastructure.

Tectonic is a platform which comnines Kubernetes and the CoreOS stack. Tectonic pre-packages all components required to build Google-style infrastructure and adds additional features such as a management console for workflows, an integrated registry to build and share Linux containers, and tools to automate deployment and customize updates.
