British ICT company Comtec Power is set to design and build a data center for IP House, a London-based colocation start-up.

The facility, which will be built to Tier III standards, will be located between the City of London and Canary Wharf and is expected to come online in 2018. It will be built in two phases: the first will offer 14,000 sq ft of technical space, hosting 216 racks.

Comtec’s partner Schneider Electric will supply the project with data center equipment including NetShetler SX Racks, Symmetra PX UPS systems, APC switchgear, Netbotz environmental monitoring and metered PDUs.

According to Ian Gregg, data center specialist at Comtec, capacity, scalability and footprint were important considerations of the initial design.

“The modularity offered by Symmetra PX will allow IP House to expand their backup power as both the data centre and business grows. Its power modules and batteries have a smaller footprint than other products available in the market, meaning the space saved translates directly in the data centre, creating more room for customers’ IT equipment,” he said.

Update: This article previously associated IP House mentioned here with another company based in the US, but in fact they have no relationship or affiliation with one another.
