Cryptomine firm CleanSpark is partnering with immersion cooling provider Submer.

Announced this week, the two companies are working together on an “infrastructure platform that integrates power generation, data center development, and AI-service delivery.”

Under the partnership, CleanSpark aims to focus on selecting, developing, building, and operating AI-focused campuses, while Submer will offer its cooling technology and expertise in modular data center systems.

As part of the agreement, the two companies are working towards a “definitive agreement and the development of AI data centers in North America.”

Describing itself as “America’s Bitcoin Miner,” CleanSpark currently has around 33 Bitcoin mining sites in operation across Wyoming, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia. The company has more than 1GW of capacity under contract. CleanSpark recently announced a pivot to HPC and AI data center development, though it hasn’t detailed any firm plans yet.

Founded in 2015 by Daniel Pope and Pol Valls Soler, Submer has historically provided indoor and outdoor single-phase immersion cooling pods and larger-scale containerized pods.

Earlier this year, Submer announced plans to expand its remit and move into building data centers. The company’s first 56MW facility will be in Barcelona, Spain. This week saw Submer launch a new AI cloud unit, known as InferX.

Amid increased demand for capacity and limited supply, crypto-focused companies with ample amounts of cheap power are pivoting to serve AI cloud firms. The likes of Hive Digital Technologies, Northern Data, Applied Digital, Iris Energy, Hut 8, Mawson Infrastructure, Crusoe, and others are just a few of the many companies making the shift.
