London based colocation provider City Lifeline has upgraded its power and cooling infrastructure, cutting power use by one fifth and is claiming a reduction in PUE from 2.4 to 1.9 in the process.

The gains were achieved from the replacement of legacy cooling with Fujitsu and Mitsubishi supplied inverter-driven systems.

The company said this has led to additional power capacity being released and the addition of more rack space and suites.

Roger Keenan, managing director of City Lifeline said: "In keeping with our on-ongoing review programme, by replacing old and inefficient cooling systems, we have successfully decreased our power usage, improved our green performance and reduced the amount by which we heat up Central London. We will use that gain to increase capacity. City Lifeline will install a new Chloride N+1 UPS pair and supporting infrastructure."
