Cisco finished its fiscal year 2012 at the end of July, reporting a record yearly revenue and earnings per share.
Its net income for the year was US$8bn on net sales of $46.1bn. This was a 24% increase in income and a 7% increase in revenue from the previous fiscal year.
The company’s CEO John Chambers said this was a record year in terms of both revenue and earnings per share (EPS). Cisco’s full-year EPS was $1.85 – a 14% increase year over year.
“Our strategy – delivering intelligent networks and technology architectures, built on integrated products, services and software platforms, to fuel our customers' businesses – is proving the right long-term strategy for our success,” Chambers said.
“There is no question that our industry and our world are evolving quickly and Cisco is squarely at the center of major technology market transitions -- cloud, mobile, visual, virtual and social.”
The highlights from the fiscal year’s final quarter for the company’s global business included the acquisition of ClearAccess, a software for service providers for provisioning and management of residential and mobile devices, completion of the acquisition of Truviso, a network data analysis company, and a partnership with the virtualization firm Citrix to develop joint go-to-market activities.
Technology-wise, Cisco announced its Cloud Connected Solution during the fourth fiscal quarter, among other products. The solution provides cloud-enabled routing and wide-area-network optimization platform.
The company has also released several products aimed at capitalizing on the growth in the mobile-data market. These include the Aggregation Services Router 5500 for mobile networks and the Unified Communications Release 9.0 suite of collaboration tools, which includes collaboration from mobile devices.
Cisco also launched a carrier-grade IPv6 solution, aiming to capture a bigger share of the market for IPv6-enabled devices that is only expected to grow in the near future, as more and more companies transition to the new Internet Protocol device addressing system.
