Chinese utility Yuneng Holdings has acquired a minority stake in Xiantian Computing Power Henan Technology, which is planning to take a majority stake in data center operator Heying Data.

Heying Data, otherwise known as Hoyinn, is a data center company based in Zhengzhou, the capital of the central Chinese province Henan. It currently offers more than 1.3GW of IT capacity in data center projects, with more than 5GW in its pipeline, according to its website.

Yuneng Holdings will invest RMB 1.1 billion ($160m) to take a 42.3 percent stake in Xiantian Computing Power Henan Technology, and its controlling shareholder, province-level investment company Henan Investment Group, will take a 57.7 percent majority stake in Xiantian worth RMB 1.4 billion ($203m).

Xiantian, which is also owned by the Henan Investment Group, will then acquire a 91.2 percent stake in Heying Data in tandem with other investors for around RMB 9.5 billion ($1.4bn), according to a public announcement made last Friday.

But Xiantian’s shares in Heying would “amount to no less than 55 percent of the total equity,” according to the announcement.

Yuneng is a thermal and renewable power company also based in Henan.

Heying Data lists three data centers on its website. Its Intelligent Computing Campus and its Technology Industrial Campus are located near the city of Zhangjiakou, Hebei, and its third campus is situated at the Langfang Airport Industrial Campus near Beijing’s Daxing International Airport.

Heying is also the parent company of China’s Galaxy Data Center, which pledged to invest $2 billion in data centers in Thailand last August.
