China Mobile has landed the Southeast Asia-Hainan-Hong Kong (SEA-H2X) subsea cable in Hong Kong.

The Chinese telecoms firm this week announced the successful landing of the cable in Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong.

The 5,000km (3,106 miles) cable will run from Hong Kong and Hainan to Singapore via Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.

The full eight-fiber-pair, 200Tbps system is set to be completed by the end of 2025 and go live early next year.

The cable was first announced in May 2022 and was scheduled for completion last year.

China Unicom Global, Converge, PPTEL SEA H2X Sdn (aka Irix, formerly known as PP Telecom) Bhd are also part of the cable consortium. China Mobile is the landing party in Hong Kong.

The cable system is being built by China’s HMN Technologies.

Converge ICT Solutions announced that the South-East Asia Hainan-Hong Kong Express (SEA-H2X) cable landed in Buang, La Union, on the island of Luzon, last year. The system has also reportedly already landed on the Chinese island of Hainan.

As the project’s largest investor, China Mobile has invested in four trunk fiber pairs and several branch segments, securing at least 100Tbps of dedicated bandwidth upon commissioning.
