Data center space has become a large concern for motion picture makers in recent times as technology plays an even bigger part in modern movie making.

Cloud computing is helping meet the demand of companies such as Dreamworks Animation, according to Cerelink CEO James Ellington.

He said that by deploying servers in its New Mexico Data Centre it is helping companies such as Dreamworks with Hollywood interests keep up real-time demand of intensive computer packages.

“We are forecasting growing our technical capacity by 20 times by the end of 2011 – this will create one of the largest cloud computing arrays for motion picture production in the world,” Ellington said.

Cerelink is providing Dreamworks with ‘elastic cloud computing’, which will allow Dreamworks to dynanmically adjust its technical capacity to meet its real-time need for rendering its computer-generated imagery.

Dreamworks has already tried and tested the technology – it was used on its Shrek Forever After and How to Train Your Dragon movies earlier this year.

Cerelink is also in talks with a number of other movie makers to rent space, or provide services from its Rio Ranch data centre, which it runs with the  New Mexico Computing Application Center.
