A 25-year-old man has fallen to his death while working on a telecom tower in New Brunswick, Canada.
As reported by Wireless Estimator, the technician fell while conducting repairs on a wireless tower at a site on Coverdale Road, Riverdale, on April 7, around 12:30 pm local time.
The man, who has not been named, was taken to a nearby hospital by emergency services and later pronounced dead.
He was employed by Saskatchewan-based WesTower Communications, one of the country’s main wireless infrastructure providers.
According to the company's website, WesTower has more than 900 specialized employees and contractors.
"Our immediate priority is the safety and well-being of our employees and their families. We are focused on providing support to the affected crew, and we are working in partnership with appropriate authorities to investigate the circumstances that led to this incident.” Schauerte confirmed that no other workers were injured," said Nathan Schauerte, president, WesTower, in a statement to the media.
Details around the height from which the man fell were not revealed, though it was noted that he was carrying out work for Bell Canada.
WorkSafeNB (New Brunswick) has opened an investigation into the incident.
Wireless Estimator notes that the worker's death is just the fifth technician fall-related fatality since 1999 in Canada.
DCD's sympathies go out to the worker and his friends, family, and colleagues.
