CapitaLand is to develop a data center in Osaka, Japan.

Asset manager CapitaLand Investment Limited (CLI) this week announced it has acquired a freehold land parcel in Osaka to develop a 50MW facility.

The company aims to invest $700 million in the project, its first data center in Japan. Further details weren’t shared.

Manohar Khiatani, senior executive director of CLI who oversees the Group’s data center business said: “CLI’s data center portfolio has expanded significantly over the last few years and we are delighted to expand our footprint to Japan.”

With this latest acquisition, CLI said it has added 23 data centers across nine countries to its portfolio since 2021. CapitaLand Group has 27 data centers across Asia and Europe with about 800MW of power.

As well as Japan, the Temasek-owned company has facilities in development and operation across Singapore, South Korea, India, China, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
