Campbell County Economic Development Corp is actively searching for suitable tracts of land for the construction of datacenters, as the county seeks to diversify the local economy and establish itself as a datacenter location.
The agency hopes to attract smaller-scale centers that would store data for businesses like banks and insurance agencies, but admits that finding and acquiring such land (six to 10 acres) is a crucial but difficult proposition.
Additionally, Gillette Utilities director Mike Muirhead believes that the site of any datacenter could necessitate the building of a new additional electrical substation just to serve the facility.
Both the Gillette and Wright communities hope to rival Cheyenne as Wyoming premier datacenter market.
