Multinational telecoms company British Telecom Group (BT) is expanding its Nieuwegein data center in the Netherlands. BT is adding a high-density server room which will increase the sites capacity by 30 percent.

The expansion comes after the increase in demand for network-based IT services and cloud-based applications. BT has other facilities in the Netherlands located in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The Rotterdam facility – opened earlier this year – was built following demand for cloud-based services in the area.

It is also designed to meet the EU Code of Conduct, a voluntary European scheme to promote more energy efficiency in data centers, which is widely adopted in the industry.

BT said the extended server space will be fully operational by spring 2015.
