BT has announced that its contract with Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch Directorate for Public Works and Water Management, for the regional NNV-network will be expanded from 86 to 392 sites following the award of a sizeable part of the Overheidstelecommunicatie 2006 (OT2006 ) fixed data communication services cluster. The new contract, which runs until 2011, is worth more than Ôé¼12m.
Apart from internet access, it covers all xDSL and Ethernet connections between Rijkswaterstaat's datacenters and IT sites, as well as those of the ministries of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, Social Affairs and Employment, and Economic Affairs.
The expansion starts in February and is expected to be complete in November of this year. The reliable data connections - with speeds of up to 10 Gbps - which BT will supply throughout the Netherlands, will for instance be used by the government for office automation, dyke security, frost detection systems, dynamic traffic management and agricultural solutions.
