Brocade's new 125,000-sq-ft data center in San Jose has received a US$2.1m cash incentive from the Pacific Gas &Electric Co for energy efficiency measures incorporated into the build.
The data center is part of a larger 562,000 sq ft campus which cost the company US$278m.
Brocade VP of Global Real Estate Michael Hirahara said the incentive is the largest delivered by PG&E to date.
Brocade spent four years working on the data center which opened last year.
The data center has received LEED Gold certification and uses mechanical and electrical systems that help drive efficiencies, including high efficiency chillers and cooling towers, and electrical distribution system and transformers at a cost of US$6m.
It also uses 0.5MWs wroth of solar panels installed to power its network.
Hirahara said Brocade expects to see savings of US$1.5m a year on its electricity bill which equates to about 5,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
The money provided by PG&E will be invested into further energy efficiency savings in the data center.
