Italian TV broadcaster Rai has completed the first five facilities of its new Edge data center network. The facilities are due to launch in the coming weeks.
“By opening five new Edge data centers in the cities of Florence, Genoa, Milan, Turin, and Venice, we have increased our total capacity to over 1.6MW,” Rai Way said on LinkedIn this week. “With our housing and colocation services, we guarantee low latency, 24-hour autonomous access, and full integration with hybrid cloud and multi-cloud solutions, as well as security and compliance with European standards.”
Rai Way provides the broadcasting infrastructure for the Italian state television company Rai.
In April 2023, Rai Way announced its Edge data center network project. The company planned to develop a platform of 18 Edge data centers covering 20 Italian regions for a combined IT capacity of 3.4MW, as well as a 4MW data center in Milan and a 40MW data center in Rome.
The following year, Rai committed to investing €140 million ($151.6m) in developing data centers in the country.
