Brazillian academic Internet network RNP (Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa) will host its IT infrastructure in Elea's BSB2 data center in Brasília.

In a statement from RNP, the organization stated that it would now be offering another National Data Center for its teaching and research institutions.

RNP has opted for Elea's Tier III design-certified data center in Brasília, BSB2, which uses 100 percent renewable energy.

BSB2 has 4.5MW of IT capacity and offers access to more than ten carriers.

The agreement with Elea will increase the colocation capacity for Brazil's academic community, and increase storage capacity for large volumes of data.

“The National Data Centers are spaces for the provision of distributed services for the benefit of the institutions of the RNP System. The first service made available is colocation, which enables the structuring of new offerings, such as secure large-scale data storage, community hybrid cloud, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and High-Performance Computing (HPC)," said Antônio Carlos F. Nunes, director of services and solutions at RNP. "This partnership is a strategic vision that is being consolidated, established with a data center company recognized for operating highly specialized environments and with effective actions related to energy sustainability."

“It is extremely important to have a partnership like this, with an entity focused on research and development. This exchange of information and technology will be very important for us to leverage new businesses and develop the research area, which is extremely important for our country,” added Márcia Salomão, director of government business at Elea.

National Data Centers for RNP, a project that began in 2021, are part of Brazil's Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation Conecta Program and receive resources from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT). This is the second National Data Center opened by RNP, following that in São Paulo that launched in 2024 in a Scala Data Centers facility.

Elea has nine data centers operating across Brazil. Last year, the company raised $100m in sustainability-linked debt, which will be used for ongoing expansion. In July, Elea acquired two data centers in São Paulo from DXC Technology.
