Scotland-based cabling firm Brand-Rex has launched network asset tracking software, along with a new fiber cabling system.

The SmartPatch software provides real time monitoring of a wide range of cable systems, and can be patched into other network management tools. It monitors the network, including the users in a building, data center connectivity, and connectivity to outside facilities on the campus and elsewhere in the enterprise. Brand-Rex hopes it will bridge the age-old gap between IT and facilities management.

Peace between IT and facilities?

“Many separate components of Building Management Systems have converged onto the single IP/Ethernet building network,” said Brand-Rex product manager Erwin Deeben. “Both IT and facilities management need constant access to the network’s physical and logical details. This has been an ongoing challenge in data center environments for many years where IT has held this information and facilities management has not had access.”

The new software should give all departments access to complete real-time information, by aggregating information into a single database which tracks network usage and the location of equipment.

Brand Rex also recently launched a new pre-terminated fiber-optic cabling system. Hi-Dex has low-loss pre-terminated MT ferrule & LC connector technology, for 10Gbps, 40Gbps, 100Gbps, 400Gbps and beyond.

Hi-Dex has very low-loss LC and MTP Elite connectivity and uses bend insensitive high bandwidth optical fibres. It is a modular system with a choice of fibre cassettes, chassis and panels. A 1U Hi-Dex chassis can hold six independent Hi-Dex fibre cassettes. It supports single-mode or multi-mode fiber.
