The following content is from an older version of this website, and may not display correctly.US retail chain with more than 200 stores in shopping malls spread out across more than 40 states has deployed switches and wireless LAN controllers supplied by the Santa Clara, Calif.-based Extreme Networks. The vendor delivered networking gear for the retailer's data center infrastructure (consisting of an in-house facility and a colocation space) and for its headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.
In its data centers, The Limited deployed Extreme's Summit X450 and Summit X480 fixed Gigabit switches for aggregation of critical business information and installed the vendor's Summit X450a and Summit WM 3000 series wireless LAN controllers at the network edge of its HQ offices.
While the deal was made last quarter, the vendor did not want to announce it until the client had a chance to install some of the gear and have some experience using it within its architecture, Extreme Networks Chief Marketing Officer Paul Hooper said.
The Limited is not replacing its entire network infrastructure with Extreme Networks gear. "We expect to co-exist (with other vendors' products) inside their architecture," Hooper explained. "We do recognize that we live in an open world."
The vendor does expect to go after outfitting The Limited's branch offices with its networking equipment in the future as well.
Extreme Network caters to the enterprise market and metro carriers. The enterprise vertical comprises about 70 percent of the company's business, data centers being a large portion of that, and the rest is metro carrier business.
