An industrial real estate firm set up by Blackstone has filed to develop a data center campus outside Atlanta, Georgia.

B9 Union City Owner LLC has filed a Developments of Regional Impact (DRI) application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for a new campus in Union City.

The project, known as the Crossings, is set to be developed on a site off Westbrook Road and Evans Drive. The 231-acre campus could see up to five buildings developed, totaling 1.56 million sq ft (144,928 sqm). The first phase could be completed by 2028.

Union City is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, some 17 miles (27.3km) southwest of downtown Atlanta. Fulton County is one of the major data center hubs around Atlanta.

The email address in the application is linked to Link Logistics, an operator of last-mile industrial real estate and warehouse properties established by Blackstone in 2019.

Atlanta, traditionally a Tier 2 market, has quickly become a major hotspot for data center development. DRI applications for more than a dozen campuses, totaling tens of millions of square feet across dozens of buildings, have been filed over the last couple of years.

While many are in Atlanta’s traditional data center heartland around Fulton County, applications have been filed for projects across the Peach State.

TA Realty and Microsoft are known to be developing data centers in Union City. Several other campuses have been proposed in the area.
