Asia Pacific data center operator BDx Data Centers has secured funding for a data center project in Hong Kong.

The financing from Clifford Capital, UOB (United Overseas Bank), and SMBC (Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation) will go to the development of its first hyperscale data center in the country.

The data center will be located in Kwai Chung and is being designed in "close collaboration" with an unnamed anchor hyperscale data center.

“This successful financing reflects our unwavering commitment to accelerating digital transformation across Asia,” said Mayank Srivastava, CEO at BDx Data Centers.

“Our data center in Hong Kong is a flagship facility designed for scale, performance, and sustainability. This also highlights BDx’s capability of consistently solving for customer requirements within challenging timelines.”

This is BDx's third financing facility, having previously secured loans for data center projects in Singapore and Indonesia.

“This transaction aligns with our focus on enabling transformative infrastructure projects that drive digital growth across Asia. BDx’s strong track record and technical capabilities make them an ideal partner for this venture,” said Murli Maiya, group CEO of Clifford Capital.

“We are pleased to finance BDx’s first dedicated hyperscale data center in Hong Kong. Green data centers are a promising growth area driven by the increasing demand for digital infrastructure and the growing global focus on sustainability,” added Lim Lay Wah, group head of Sector Solutions and Global Financial Institutions Group, at UOB.

"As a proactive bank helping ASEAN businesses achieve their sustainability goals, we look forward to partnering with BDx in their ambitions in ASEAN, Greater China, and beyond."

BDx is a portfolio company of I Squared Capital.

BDx currently has data centers and Edge sites located across Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Taiwan. The company aims to grow its portfolio in the region to 1GW of capacity.

In early 2024, BDx acquired a portfolio of data centers from Indonesia's Indosat.
