Silicon Valley colocation and managed services provider Bay Area Internet Solutions has received a rebate from its electricity supplier for deploying energy efficient cooling solutions at its new data center in Santa Clara, Calif.

Silicon Valley Power, a publically owned utility that supplies power to much of the region, awarded BAIS a $750,000 rebate on power costs, said Mark Berry, a BAIS spokesman.

"We are very proud to have built a data center that actually surpassed the SVP energy efficiency requirements in order to qualify for their maximum incentive rebate," BAIS President and CEO Tom Wye said in a statement. "We have constructed one of the most technologically advanced colocation facilities, including an innovative economizer design to accommodate today's growing customer demands for high-density power. coupled with efficient and consistent cooling requirements."

Installation of an airside economization system at the 83,000 square foot facility was key to receiving the rebate, Wye said. The data center floor is 30,000 square feet, with room to expand up to 45,000 square feet.

The company also scored major efficiency points from SVP for installing Emerson's Liebert precision cooling systems with EC plug fans as well as the new Liebert SmartAisle system for cold-aisle containment. DatacenterDynamics reported on installation of the SmartAisle system in this facility last week, when Emerson officially announced the product.
