Bahraini telecoms group Beyon has launched a new data center and expanded a solar farm.

Among a slew of announcements this week at the Gateway Gulf 2025 event, the company said it has completed and commissioned its new White Space Data Centre.

The facility spans 6,000 sqm (64,583 sq ft) and forms part of Beyon’s Data Oasis, a 140,000 sqm (1.5m sq ft) site located in southern Bahrain.

Beyon CEO, Andrew Kvaalseth, said: “We were delighted to announce the completion of Batelco’s new White Space Data Centre, a culmination of extensive efforts and investment to bring an ambitious vision to life. This achievement could not have happened without the invaluable support of Bahrain’s government entities and authorities. We are committed to investments that help to attract global tech companies as well as the leading local and regional players.”

Batelco by Beyon CEO, Maitham Abdulla added: “The new White Space Data Centre, forming a central part of Batelco’s wider ecosystem, is the largest and most power-dense facility in Bahrain, and one of the most power-efficient data centers in the region. It is designed to serve the evolving needs of a wide range of enterprise and government customers. Furthermore, it helps to meet their sustainability requirements as our data center integrates the latest clean power technologies from Beyon’s Solar Park. Delivering Bahrain’s first White Space Data Centre underscores our commitment to developing world-class digital infrastructure that aligns with Bahrain’s vision for a smart, sustainable digital future.”

Beyon expands solar farm

The company also said this week that Phase III of the Beyon Solar Park, developed in partnership with Almoayyed Solar, has been completed.

The grid-connected solar system spans more than 13,000 sqm (139,930 sq ft) and features 2,588 solar panels, generating approximately 2.5 GWh of clean energy annually. The site supports the company’s Tier III data center in Hamala.

Beyon CEO Kvaalseth said: “Our collaboration with Almoayyed Solar reflects Beyon’s long-term commitment to sustainability and innovation. With the completion of Phase 3 of our Solar Parks, we have taken a major step forward in translating that commitment into tangible impact, powering our operations with clean energy, enhancing efficiency, and supporting the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national sustainability agenda.”

Beyon’s Hamala data center offers 2.75MW and a capacity for 250 racks. This facility launched in 2021. The company has another colocation facility in Manama.

Phase 2 of the solar park launched in 2023.

Chairman of Almoayyed International Group, Mohammed Almoayyed, added: “Working with Beyon has been a model of private-sector collaboration driving renewable energy adoption. Together, we’ve delivered cutting-edge solar infrastructure and are excited to build on this success in the next stage of our partnership.”

Sovereign cloud

This week also saw Beyon announce plans for an Oracle-based sovereign cloud offering.

Beyon Solutions has signed a strategic partnership with the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) for the launch of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s first AI-ready Sovereign HyperCloud, powered by Oracle Alloy.

The company said the Sovereign HyperCloud will be the only cloud designed to host data entirely within Bahrain. Details on where the cloud will be hosted weren’t shared.

Beyon Solutions has also signed an MoU with Gulf Air Group and Oracle to develop an Alloy-based unified enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution across Gulf Air Group.

Beyon taps Ericsson in Jordan

Beyon’s Jordanian telco division, Umniah, is to use Ericsson for its telecoms network gear.

Under the five-year agreement, Ericsson will serve as Umniah’s exclusive radio access network (RAN) provider for 3G, 4G, and 5G technologies. Ericsson will supply hardware from its radio system portfolio, including the Massive MIMO TDD AIR 6419, the dual-band Radio 4490, and Basebands 6631 and 6621.
