Critical power firm AVK and Rolls Royce power systems have reported a record-breaking year of deployment of Rolls Royce hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) ready mtu generation sets at AVK sites.

Rolls Royce has supplied more than 500 generators to AVK, which have been deployed across its data center, industrial, and building assets. In addition, AVK has further orders for 120 HVO-powered generation sets.

“By providing businesses with access to HVO-powered generators and engineering expertise at scale, our customers have an immediate pathway to reduce emissions while maintaining the highest levels of resiliency and power reliability and resiliency,” said Ben Pritchard, CEO of AVK.

In 2021, the companies signed an exclusive partnership for the supply of Rolls-Royce mtu brand of standby generation sets in the UK and Ireland.

Rolls Royce has a long-term supply agreement with Neste Oy for its HVO product. Neste’s HVO produces up to 75 percent less carbon emissions than conventional diesel fuels.

In March, AVK signed its first microgrid agreement with a data center provider in Ireland as part of a broader cooperation agreement with European renewable energy developer Wärtsilä.

Under the agreement, AVK will design and install on-site natural gas power generation, with Wärtsilä providing the engineered equipment and maintenance support.

As part of its microgrid solution, AVK deploys Rolls Royce mtu engines with a power range of between 150kW and 3.2MW.

DCD has learned that AVK is currently finalizing two similar agreements in Lisbon and the UK markets, which are expected to be completed in 2025.

The company said it is open to deploying onsite renewable energy to decarbonize operations in the future.
