Cryptocurrency firm Avax One Technology has signed a front-end engineering and design (FEED) proposal for a 10MW off-grid natural gas-powered AI and high-performance computing (HPC) data center at the 4-31 Battery site in Alberta, Canada.
The FEED study will be led by BlueFlare Energy Solutions and will assess technical design, costs, and regulatory requirements ahead of a potential final investment decision. The work will be carried out by one of three pre-qualified engineering firms and will not need any upfront capital from Avax.
The specified site includes behind-the-meter natural gas generation, access to 138kV transmission line, and fiber connectivity. According to the company, the FEED study will run in parallel with early site development.
“This FEED engagement represents the first formal step in what we believe will become a landmark AI infrastructure project in Alberta,” said Landon Ruszkowski, CEO of BlueFlare.
“BlueFlare is committed to delivering engineering certainty and cost transparency before any significant capital is deployed — thus assuring efficacy in advance of building critical infrastructure of this scale.”
“Demand for AI and high-performance computing continues to accelerate, while access to power remains the primary bottleneck. Our approach is designed to bridge that gap by combining energy and compute in a modular, scalable format that allows us to move quickly, generate near-term revenue, and position Avax One for long-term participation in this growth cycle,” added Jolie Kahn, CEO of Avax.
Avax said that it sees the project as part of a broader push to develop modular, power-first data center infrastructure in energy-advantaged regions, such as Alberta and Texas. In addition to the FEED proposal, the company also acquired 220 Bitmain Antminer S21 Pro TH/s) ASIC mining machines set for deployment in Alberta. According to the company, the miners will be used to immediately monetize the site's power capacity through Bitcoin mining, supporting a dual-track strategy.
Avax is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. It acts as a "treasury" for the Avalanche (AVAX) blockchain network, providing users with regulated access to the system. The company was rebranded in 2025 to focus on blockchain, previously operating as AgriFORCE, which focused on AgTech and agricultural technology.
