Software defined storage vendor Atlantis Computing has launched an appliance, claiming it can cut 90 percent off the cost of hyper-converged storage appliance from its rivals. 

The Atlantis HyperScale all-flash storage appliance is aimed at data centers and midsized enterprises, and comes pre-integrated with the Atlantis software-defined storage offering, which works with any storage hardware based on Intel Xeon processors, Intel solid-state drives and hypervisors from VMware or Citrix. Atlantis also provides a single point of contact for 24 hour maintenance and support and part replacement within four hours.

“Midsized businesses need lightning fast, cost-effective storage from a trusted source on the hardware they know and love. This is the first plug-and-play appliance to integrate all-flash speed at less than half the cost.” said Atlantis founding CEO Chetan Venkatesh, at the UK launch in the Churchill War Rooms. Technology partners Citrix and VMware were also in attendance.

Atlantis HyperScale is sold through channel partners, who will integrate and deliver HyperScale solutions pre-configured to customers.

Atlantis’ USX software-defined storage technology performs in-memory in-line de-duplication before data is written to storage, which it claims will create minimal latency, high IOPS and lower storage network traffic. The operating efficiencies and use of commodity hardware mean it can offer a 12TB all-flash four-server cluster for $78,000.

“No-one has to remain hostage to steep hardware premiums or settle for infrastructure complexity,” said Venkatesh.

Every Atlantis HyperScale purchase includes a three-year global end-to-end service and support programme, covering the entire appliance, including the Atlantis software, hypervisor, solid-state drives (SSDs) and server hardware components.
