According to a report released by IT analyst Gartner, which spoke with 148 Indian companies, 42% of Indian companies have no plans as yet to invest in cloud computing technologies while 21% say it is one of their top priorities in 2011.

The result is in line with global findings, which from a sample of 1,004 showed 45% of respondents around the world were unsure or had no plans to set up infrastructure for the cloud.

According to Gartner, the immaturity of current technology was a top inhibitor. Comapnies requiring business agilitiy are the most likely to be moving to the cloud, according to Gartner.

ODC and the cloud

Sydney audiences were told that open, interoperable standards would help companies transition to the cloud recently, in one of the first speeches delivered under the guise of the Open Data Center Alliance (ODC).

According to PCWorld in Australia, Intel general manager for Asia Pacific and China for data center products Jason Fedder said this would help create more certaintiy around cloud computing's capabilities and drive adoption.

ANZ EMC channel man retires

EMC Australia and New Zealand president David Webster said that its Channel and Alliances general manager David Henderson has resigned, but will still work with the company as a consultant.

Henderson spent eight years with EMC, building its channel relationships during the tenure. He previously worked for 3M, Toshiba, AST, 3Com and Tech Pacific.
