BlackBerry is reportedly entering a leaseback deal with Ascent, who recently purchased the company’s ATL1 Atlanta data center.

In a $30 million transaction, BlackBerry  reportedly decided to sell the facility to ”focus on its core business.”

Ascent purchased the facility in partnership with investment management firm TowerBrook Capital Partners and via a limited liability company, and announced it at the same time as its acquisition of a 4.8MW Toronto facility, TOR1. DCD reported in 2014 that TeraGo purchased a 4.8MW facility in Toronto formerly occupied by BlackBerry, which could be the same data center.

Phil Horstmann, CEO of Ascent, stated that “similar to other data center owners, this customer was reevaluating its real estate portfolio and operational needs. Our team and partners were able to put forth an action plan that enabled us to execute on this international transaction on a compressed timeline. We look forward to working with our customer and bringing these enterprise-grade facilities and their respective data center capabilities to market for additional tenants.”
