Communications and engineering group ARINC will host and manage George Best Belfast City Airport's new check-in solution at its data center, using its vMUSE Enterprise hosted check-in solution.

Belfast City Airport, which caters to regional air traffic, said the solution will reduce costs seen with on-site servers and workstations.

Instead the airport will use think clients hardware, and check in data will be processed at ARINC's data center, with data delivered back to the airport in real time, George Best Belfast City Airport airside operations manager Raymond Hooke said.

"The vMUSE Enterprise concept brings to the table a number of key advantages including a much smaller capital investment, lower energy consumption, less space requirements and a significantly reduced roll out time," Hooke said.

"Additionally, because the system monitoring and administration is accomplished in real time at the ARINC data center, there is no need for an IT administrator exclusively focussed on the passenger check-in system."

ARINC senior director for integrated travel solutions EMEA Tony Chapman said ARINC will use its Common Use Passenger Processing (CUPPS) service to process check-in details using the thin clients.

"Our hosted service is, in effect, Software-as-a-Service," Chapman said.

"It delivers a scalable, low-cost check-in solution for airports."
