Apple is looking to bring on additional server and storage capacity in Silicon Valley, but instead of building its own it will rent, according to a report by Data Center Knowledge last week.

The report did not name sources, but said the facility is likely to be smaller than the iDataCenter it has built in North Carolina.

It said it had signed for 11,000 sq ft of data center space in Santa Clara as part of a seven-year lease, which could being sometime in Q3.

DuPont Fabros Technology confirmd in its Q3 earnings that it is building Apple's hosted data center in California. Such a set up could allow Apple to start its new data center in a shorter time frame than a fresh build.
