Altice USA's fiber brand, Optimum, has announced a $4.4 million investment to upgrade the fiber optic network for emergency services and government in Tyler, Texas.

Optimum noted that construction has already started on 40 miles of strategically designed fiber routes, which it states will ensure "improved reliability and redundancy for Tyler’s police stations, fire departments, and major government buildings."

According to Optimum, the upgraded network will deliver speeds of up to 1Gbps.

The latest investment from Optimum takes the total amount it's invested in Tyler to $9 million.

Optimum added that its investment will also expand its fiber footprint to support local hospitals and businesses, including Smith County and Tyler ISD. "This fiber ring will connect directly to new data centers across Texas, offering much higher bandwidth, low latency, and strong network reliability for businesses," stated the company.

“Our investment underscores Optimum’s dedication to Tyler’s people and institutions,” said Amanda Seabaugh, vice president, general manager of Optimum Texoma. “We’re proud to deliver future-proof fiber connections that empower first responders, government entities, and businesses with exceptional reliability."

Optimum, which started construction last month, aims to complete construction of its fiber ring next year.

The company previously invested $4.6m on network upgrades in Tyler in August 2024.

Optimum has been operating as a brand of Altice USA since 2016, when Altice completed its acquisition of Cablevision for $17.7 billion. As part of the deal, Cablevision was combined with Suddenlink Communications, a former subsidiary of Altice USA. The deal created the fourth-largest cable operator in the US.

At present, Optimum offers Internet, television, mobile, and home phone services in 21 states.
