The operator of a Metro Texas-wide fiber optic network, Alpheus Communciations has announced it has acquired Aspen Communications, the Dallas-based operator of information technology facilities for collocation clients.
According to the company, the acquisition expands Alpheus' disaster recovery, hosting and back-up offerings for Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi. Alpheus acquired all the assets of Aspen Communications which includes several data center facilities in Dallas, Fort Worth and Bryan/College Station, along with Aspen's DFW-based licensed fixed wireless network.
"This acquisition gives Alpheus a tremendous platform to serve enterprise level customers," said Paul Hobby Chairman and CEO of Alpheus. "You hear a lot about convergence in the telecommunications industry, and this deal illustrates the next form of inevitable convergence: telecommunications and information technology services. Alpheus' telecommunications network, our Metrolocity multi-carrier peering product, and Aspen's data center capabilities are a very powerful combination for clients who want a robust network standing behind their outsourced information technology requirements.
"Customers are seeing the advantages of moving costly server and storage functions into facilities that have redundant power, adequate cooling, and proximity to a quality network, said Stephen W. Crawford, senior vice president for mergers & acquisitions at Alpheus. "We have always owned the network, and now we are putting these state-of-the-art data center facilities at the edges.
