Alabama-based insurance company Infinity Property and Casualty has bought a 4.65 acre land in Birmingham, Alabama, where it plans to build a data center, The Birmingham News reported.

The property - sold for about US$370,000 - is part of the Jefferson Metropolitan Lakeshore Park, home to many other enterprise data centers.

One of the most recent projects there is Community Health System's $25m project on a property the Tennessee-based healthcare organization bought earlier this year, according to The Birmingham News.

The news service listed three other data centers built there by high-profile US companies, including a $400m Wells Fargo facility, a Southern Company one, as well as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.

The Wells Fargo data center originally started as a Wachovia data center project, which led to creation of the park. In December 2008, Wells Fargo bought Wachovia as requested by the US government, reportedly to save Wachovia from failure as a result of the economic meltdown.
