Malawi-based telecommunications company Airtel Malawi has opened a new data center in Blantyre, Malawi’s commercial capital.

The data center doubles Airtel Malawi’s capacity, allowing it to host additional ICT infrastructure.

Saulos Chilima, managing director of Airtel Malawi, said the company has injected over US$1m into the project.

“The data centre will help eliminate congestion on the systems and ensure systems stability,” Chilima said.

“As a result of the project’s investment, it is expected that Airtel will improve stability of the systems, increase the service offerings and respond to customers’ needs more favourably.”

Chilima added Airtel Malawi will release cloud computing systems in the next few weeks.
