Active Power, Inc. is proud to announce that its new product, CoolAir DC, has been recognized by Electrical Construction & Maintenance (EC&M;) magazine as the Power Conditioning Equipment category winner for the 2006 Product of the Year Award. The honor was given to CoolAir DC by a panel of industry experts that reviews the premier products based on innovation and commercial availability. The 24 category winners were announced at the Electric West 2006 show and will go on to compete for the 2006 EC&M; Product of the Year Platinum Award.
CoolAir DC, based on Active Power's patented Thermal and Compressed Air Storage (TACAS) technology, provides backup power for critical equipment and processes. While the end result is similar to the lead-acid batteries typically used in today's uninterruptible power supply (UPS) applications, CoolAir DC is battery-free, using simple, non-toxic, and an environmentally clean means to provide reliable backup power, and requires far less maintenance over its 20 year life. As an added and innovative advantage, CoolAir DC produces cool air during system discharge that mitigates heat build-up in data centers when utility power is interrupted and air conditioning systems become unavailable.
"We're very pleased to be chosen as the EC&M; power conditioning equipment category winner this year," stated Jim Clishem, President and COO of Active Power. "This further validates Active Power's leadership in providing technically innovative and environmentally friendly 3-phase UPS products for the worldwide power industry. Providing a replacement for lead-acid batteries addresses the weakest link in today's mission-critical data centers."
2006 has proved to be a banner year for Active Power, as CoolAir DC also received Electronic Products magazine's Product of the Year title for 2006, and Frost & Sullivan bestowed the Customer Development Leadership award at the Fall 7x24 event in November 2005.
